Certified Surgical Technician - Travel Position
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Facility: McLeod Regional Medical Center
Hospital System: McLeod Health
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Maintain a professional image and excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
- Be flexible, punctual, and willing to learn in the surgical environment.
- Work under surgeon supervision to facilitate safe and effective invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures.
- Ensure operating room (OR) environment safety and proper equipment function.
- Prepare OR rooms, supplies, and equipment to support efficient perioperative processes.
- Maintain sterile instruments, sutures, and equipment necessary for surgical procedures.
- Assist with patient positioning and prepping according to hospital standards.
- Perform initial and additional instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator.
- Assist with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field.
- Participate in surgical site and patient verification during the time-out procedure.
- Maintain the sterile field to ensure patient and employee safety.
- Prepare and pass off specimens as appropriate.
- Assist in lifting, turning, positioning, and preparing patients using proper body mechanics.
- Help maintain a clean and safe environment, including terminal cleaning of instruments and rooms.
- Use standard precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment when handling hazardous substances.

- Operative pre, intra, and post procedural patient care
- Perform all duties as assigned.
Required Certifications & Credentials
- NBSTSA Certification (only certification recognized in South Carolina for CST)
- BLS (AHA only)
- License/Certificate Verification (state-specific registry)
- Driver's License/State ID
- Social Security Card
- McLeod Criminal Background Check (county, statewide, national, OIG, EPLS, OFAC, NSOP, SS Trace, education verification within last 7 years)
- McLeod Employment Verification (5 years)
- McLeod Drug Screen (10 panel, completed within 30 days of start; rapid drug screen not accepted)
Required Immunizations & Health Requirements
- MMR: Proof of 2 immunizations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Proof of 3 vaccinations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella: Proof of 2 immunizations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
- 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): 1st within 1 year, 2nd within 30 days of start (negative Q-Gold or Tspot acceptable if within 90 days)
- Influenza Vaccine: Required September through April; medical/religious exemptions considered case-by-case
- Fit Test: Required for all travelers with mask/model, completed within a year of start (optional)
Additional Requirements
- McLeod Profile: Resume or profile required; references preferred but not mandatory
- McLeod Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist completed prior to start and updated annually
- McLeod Confirmation of Assignment: Standard form required
This position requires adherence to McLeod Health’s standards for patient safety, sterile technique, and professional conduct in the surgical environment.
