Job Description
- Licensing: Indiana state license and certifications must be in hand to submit.
- Experience: Minimum 18 months recent experience in NICU or PICU required. Trauma 1 experience in a children's hospital within the last year is required.
- Shift: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts, every other week (EOW) required.
- Unit Assignment: Home unit will be NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics but may float between these units and IU Health North Hospital.
- First Time Travelers: Accepted.
- Floating: May be assigned to NICU, PICU, Pediatrics, or IU Health North Hospital.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required for placements in Labor & Delivery (can be obtained after offer)
- Indiana State License
- PALS preferred
- Education must be accredited by CoARC and regionally accredited by CHEA
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 18 months experience in NICU or PICU
- Experience with ventilators: Servo I, Servo U, Hamilton G5
- Experience in trauma level 1 children’s hospital setting within the last year
- NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics experience required
Important Facility Policies
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs will not be allowed to start new contracts at IU Health facilities, except for Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
- Last day for Indiana RNs to start a new contract is 9/9/2024 (to allow contract completion by 11/30/2024).
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators approved)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Immunizations and titers:
- Rubeola (Measles) – positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Mumps – positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Rubella – positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines required (history not accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Tuberculosis screening: Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year, or chest x-ray if positive history
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2024-25 season (no declinations accepted)
- Background check within 90 days of start, including 7-year work/living history and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment
- Skills checklist within 12 months, completed annually
- Official transcript or diploma verifying education
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology test required
- Color blindness test (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (professional, head and shoulders, plain light background)
- Completion of IU Health compliance checklists and confidentiality agreements (time sensitive)
- IU Health Self Study Orientation & Test (for certain IU Health facilities)
- Mandatory RRT modules for RRT candidates at Riley Hospital (21 modules, must be completed before orientation)
- Various facility-specific forms and packets must be completed prior to start
