Employment Type: Contract (13 weeks)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (40 hours/week, no weekends or holidays)

Job Summary

The Cytotechnologist is responsible for detecting, differentiating, and diagnosing the presence or absence of disease in gynecological and non-gynecological samples. This role supports the Pathologist with fine needle aspirates and other cytologic evaluations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform microscopic examination of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, identifying all cells using established cytologic criteria.
• Detect, select, and mark cells representative of pathological processes; prepare provisional diagnoses for review.
• Assess specimen acceptability, communicate collection and transport requirements, and document any specimen issues.
• Assist in the collection of Fine Needle Aspirates following standard procedures.
• Investigate and resolve quality control failures, documenting actions taken and escalating as needed.
• Utilize technology to record and retrieve data during daily workflow.
• Prepare final diagnoses using established cytologic terminology for normal gynecologic specimens.
• Perform accessioning, routine staining, and coverslipping of cytologic slides.
• Maintain clear specimen identification throughout the analytical process.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet departmental needs.

Certification Requirements

• Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required prior to start.
• Must meet CLIA education and experience standards for Cytotechnologists.
• Official transcript and/or diploma must be on file to meet CLIA requirements.
