Job Summary
The Registered Radiologic Technologist provides patient care specifically within the Heart & Vascular Institute. The role involves assisting physicians during invasive cardiology and invasive radiology procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and support throughout the process.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer contrast material via existing vascular access as requested by physicians; monitor and respond to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions.
- Work under direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist.
- Assist with inventory and supplies management.
- Verify patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position.
- Compile relevant clinical information (lab, pathology, etc.).
- Assist in training new staff as needed.
- Accurately document procedures according to policies.
- Explain procedures to patients and provide care including comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality.
- Perform all essential functions of a Radiologic Technologist.
- Participate in on-call duties and variable shifts as assigned.
- Maintain sterile field during procedures.
- Administer or withhold contrast and treatment appropriately.
- Assess patients for allergies.
- Prepare supplies for procedures.
- Take call within 6 months of hire.
Procedures Involved
- Cardiac Cath Lab procedures: left and right heart catheterizations, coronary stenting, pericardiocentesis, vascular access under sterile conditions.
- Structural Heart Procedures: TAVR, Watchman, Mitraclip, Triclip, ASD/PFO closure, CardioMEMs.
- Hybrid Peripheral Vascular procedures in coordination with vascular surgery: EVAR, TCAR, TEVAR.
- Use of adjunctive tools such as ICUS, FFR/iFR, Lithotripsy, Laser, Rota, Impella, IABP, OCT, CTO.
