Weekends: At least 2 weekends in a 4-week period

Unit Overview

• Unit: 61178 Surgical/Trauma Unit (Surgical/Trauma Specialty)
• Location: Main Building, 2nd Floor
• Number of Beds: 36
• Patient Ratios: 4-6 patients per nurse
• Typical Patient Population: Surgical patients including orthopedics, neurosurgery, colorectal, general surgery, non-maternal gynecology, urology, and trauma cases
• Unit Characteristics:

  • Fast-paced with high patient turnover (up to 21 discharges in a single day)
  • Emphasis on surgical patients, clinical pathways, and enhanced throughput
  • Preferred unit for many surgeons and trauma doctors
  • Diverse patient age and diagnosis range
  • Mascot: "Stu," a big purple dinosaur symbolizing the “broken bones” unit

Staffing

• Day Shift: 1 CNC, 6-8 RNs and LVNs, 3-4 PCTs, 1 UC
• Night Shift: 1 CNC, 6-8 RNs and LVNs, 3-4 PCTs

Required & Preferred Skills

• Required: BLS certification
• Preferred: ACLS, NIH certification
