Job Summary
- Schedule patients for hospital transportation and coordinate with anesthesia, med/surg teams, inpatient chemo pharmacy, and ICU to minimize patient delays.
- Create procedural orders as needed and confirm patient identity and procedural consent.
- Monitor lab values and procedure contraindications, communicating any variances to the attending physician.
- Maintain documentation of procedures performed, supplies used, and procedural details such as biopsy passes, intravascular pressure measurements, fluoroscopy time, sedation, and contrast used.
- Ensure accurate procedural coding based on diagnostics and interventions.
- Perform image manipulation and transmission from fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, and IVUS units.
- Import prior CT scan data for real-time roadmapping during procedures like aortic repair.
- Record data for endovascular repairs.
Equipment Operation
- Provide high-quality multi-modality imaging support during interventional procedures using fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and CT equipment.
- Understand specialized imaging techniques for patients with compromised cardiothoracic output or malignancies.
- Perform portable interventional procedures using ultrasound.
- Support operating room radiologic technologists and cardiac cath specialists during intra-operative cases requiring interventional radiology equipment.
- Conduct image post-processing and quality assurance.
- Perform system checks and quality control testing on equipment.
- Clean radiographic equipment and procedural suites.
- Operate single and bi-plane digital imaging systems, ultrasound, CT scan, IVUS, power injector, AngioJet, Penumbra, EKOS, CT fusion, iGuide technology, radiofrequency, microwave, cryoablation, and related hardware/software.
- Notify supervisors of equipment malfunctions and troubleshoot with vendor tech support.
Patient Care
- Explain exams to patients, position them on procedural tables, and assist with hemodynamic monitoring.
- Alert physician and nursing staff to any changes in patient condition.
- Prepare patients for procedures using sterile technique.
- Assist interventional proceduralists as first assist with sterile back table and supply management.
- Assist in administration and documentation of regulated pharmaceuticals (e.g., intravenous contrast, heparin analogues).
- Practice optimum radiation protection for patients and staff.
- Aid in application of post-procedural dressings.
- Ensure proper identification and delivery of anatomic or foreign body specimens.
